I have an educational background in fine art photography, but after college, I worked extensively in commercial photography. As a result, I feel I have gained a fantastic balance between the two styles that allows me to adapt my work for any occasion.

In 2003, I photographed my first wedding. Once I was able to get past the nerves I realized how much I loved it. There is something about the excitement of a couple’s big day that inspires my creativity. It’s as though just for that day, these two people are the most glamorous celebrities on earth and I have the privilege of being behind the scenes and front stage to document the day for history. Because of this, I make it a policy to get to know the couple I am photographing before the big day. I ask questions like “What’s the bride’s favorite physical feature about the groom?” and “Show me the last photo of yourself that you loved and tell me why you loved it”. These answers help me focus on those details throughout the wedding day to ensure that the couple will have photos that are meaningful to them and they can cherish for years to come. Weddings are a very old tradition that have managed to survive in this ever changing society. To me they present the greatest opportunity to balance classic beauty and tradition with creativity and edge.

Weddings make up much of my current business, but I got my start as a portrait photographer. I still find photographing babies, seniors, and couples to be the most fun work I could do. To me these types of photo shoots are a grown up version of playing dress-up. Between the client’s imagination and my own, it’s always fun to come up with great new images.
